whg named one of UK’s biggest builders

The leading Midlands landlord has been ranked at number 50 by trade publication Inside Housing in its top 50 biggest builders after completing 304 homes in 2022/2023.  Of these 86 were affordable rent homes, 98 were social rent homes,  71 were shared ownership and 49 were for market sale.

whg came 29th when looking at the number of homes expected to be completed in 2023/24, with 686 homes in the pipeline.

With many housing associations looking to scale back their development commitments over the next few years due to rising prices and competing pressures, we are proud to be continuing our house building programme at pace.

We have had a fantastic start to 2023. Our strong financial position, coupled with the  excellent relationships we have with partners sets us in a good position to more than double our housing completions this year as we work towards our aim of building 2000 affordable homes by 2024.

First look at new apartment scheme for over 55s

Work to build a new 324 home canalside community in Walsall is progressing well, with an apartment block for the over 55s now taking shape.

Lockside, on the sites of the former Caparo steelworks and Metafin factory, will bring a range of homes and apartments to the town, including those for outright sale, shared ownership and affordable rent.

It will include a wellbeing scheme, owned and managed by whg, which will offer apartments designed exclusively for older people, with access to extra support should they need it. The apartment block of 50 one and two bed homes is scheduled for completion in early 2024.

First homes complete at iconic gateway into Wolverhampton

The transformation of one of Wolverhampton’s key gateways has reached a major milestone, with the first homes now complete.

Long term investors and placeshapers whg are set to take handover of the first 12 homes at the former Royal Hospital site from developer Jessup.

The two bed homes, which will be available for affordable rent, sit on land to the rear of the Grade II listed hospital building.

They are the first of 192 homes to be built on the site for the leading Midlands’ landlord. This includes 123 homes for affordable rent and 31 for shared ownership. The main hospital building, which closed in 1997, will become a wellbeing scheme for over-55s made up of 38 one and two-bedroom apartments.

First customers move in as part of small site project

whg has welcomed the first customers to move into new homes built on its disused sites in Walsall.

Seven disused sites were transformed into 20 affordable homes in phase one, in partnership with constructors Harper Group, which was technically challenging on many levels due to the nature and close proximity to existing homes.

Santa,  who moved into one with her husband and three children, said: “The house is warm and bright, and really suitable for my family. I love the open-plan kitchen and the nice garden. People always struggle to find somewhere to live, so it’s great that whg are providing these affordable homes for families.”
